Widespread accumulations of snow are expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning in Jackson County, according to a Wednesday afternoon update from the Medford office of the National Weather Service on a winter storm warning and winter weather advisory due to expire at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Tuesday evening’s regular business meeting of the Ashland City Council has been cancelled due to heavy snow, the city announced Tuesday morning, and all Parks & Recreation classes have been canceled. Southern Oregon University is closed for the day.
A winter storm warning will be in effect from 10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, to 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, for mid- to higher elevation parts of Jackson County according to a news release from the National Weather Service issued Sunday morning, Sunday, Feb. 15. A winter weather advisory will be in effect over the same time period for areas up to 2,000-foot elevation.
Ashland will open two severe weather shelters from Thursday, Jan. 15, through Sunday, Jan. 18, as cold temperatures are forecast. The facilities are located at 2200 and 2350 Ashland St., and open daily at 5 p.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Ashland, with gusts up to 60 mph beginning Tuesday night and potentially lasting through Christmas Day. Meanwhile, a shelter has opened in Ashland, with a second opening its doors Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Moderate to heavy rain is expected Thursday and Friday, with National Weather Service forecasters warning of potential flooding, hazardous travel conditions and mudslides.
Ashland’s Oak Knoll Course is closed due to “extensive damage” from a wind storm Tuesday evening.
A late fall storm with heavy rainfall and high winds could cause power outages in the Rogue Valley Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters are predicting a “multi-day” rainfall event from Friday night through Sunday.
A red flag warning is in effect until 11 p.m. this evening as “abundant lightning on dry fuels is expected along with winds up to 35 mph.

Obituary: Cheryl Rae Gilliam Minoletti passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20 following complications from heart surgery. She was 68. Infectious laughter, warmth, and compassion were felt by those who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, March 28, in Eagle Point.
