Chuck Yates was born Oct. 20, 1948, in Dallas, to his parents Charles Lytton Yates, Jr. and Billie Joe Loe Yates.
In 1966, he graduated from Bryan Adams High School, and North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) in 1978 with a major in industrial arts.
A musician since childhood, he performed all over the state while working in several industries around Dallas and Denton. In 1992, his wife Bonnie Cawthon Yates took a position in Ashland at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Forensic Laboratory. Chuck enjoyed the music scene in Southern Oregon and ended his career as a music repairman at Cripple Creek Music store, a long-revered establishment in downtown Ashland.
He passed away Dec. 1, 2025, at his home in Talent. He is survived by his wife and a niece, Sherry Fazzio, in Ohio.
