June 22, 1930 — Dec. 22, 2025
Our beloved mother, Marilyn Dunne, passed away Dec. 22, in Medford.
Mom was a devoted mother to her three boys and a wonderful grandmother to her grandchildren, Alex and Riley. We learned so much from her — she was a strong role model for us all. She was especially happy to have recently become a great-grandmother to Casey and Bea and was looking forward to meeting her third great-grandchild, due in January. She had a quick wit, a good sense of humor, and an optimistic outlook on life that remained with her right up to the end. She will be deeply missed.
Marilyn was born on June 22, 1930, in Port Angeles, Washington, the daughter of Marvin and Maxine Miller. At the age of 5, she moved with her parents to Quilcene, Washington. When she was in third grade, the family relocated to Eugene, Oregon, where she attended Edison Elementary School. During junior high, the family moved once more, settling in Ashland, Oregon, where Marilyn became a lifelong resident of the Rogue Valley. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1948 and attended Southern Oregon College of Education for one year.
Marilyn worked for the Medford School District for several years as a teacher’s assistant at Hoover Grade School, retiring at the age of 62.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Werner, in 1990, and by her son David in 1991. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Ed Dunne, in 2017. Marilyn is survived by her sons, Jeff and Patrick (Pete) Werner, and their wives, Janice and Pam; her grandchildren, Alex and Riley Werner; and her great-grandchildren, Casey, Bea, and Gemma Werner.
Marilyn enjoyed visiting her son David in New York City, spending time on the Oregon Coast in Pistol River with her son Jeff and his wife Janice, and traveling to Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, and Thailand to visit her son Patrick, his wife Pam, and her grandsons Alex and Riley.
Marilyn took up golf with her first husband, Bill, and continued playing well into her early 80s. She participated in both the couples and ladies groups at Stewart Meadows Golf Course. Her other interests included playing cards, attending plays, listening to music, reading the daily newspaper, and completing the daily crossword puzzle.
Resiliency was something Marilyn always had in reserve. Numerous falls and broken bones never slowed her down. The 2020 Almeda Fire demonstrated just how resilient she truly was. After losing her home and all of her possessions, Marilyn recovered quickly under difficult circumstances, moved to The Springs at Anna Maria, and thrived while enjoying the activities it offered.
