Jackson County Parks took advantage of the dip in visitors to install upgrades such as ADA-compliant restrooms and granite tent pads in the campground. Lambert said the county replaced stairs and sidewalks throughout the park and remodeled the concessions area where waterslides used to be.
Around a dozen volunteers worked Sunday to shape a series of mounds of earth at the Ashland Dirt Jumps park for what will become a new pump track skills area on a strip of land just west of the Bear Creek Greenway’s southern terminus near the Ashland Dog Park, just south of the Ashland Wastewater Treatment Plant and behind houses along Almeda Drive.
A Mt. Ashland Ski Area season that started early and has seen above average snowfall has brought strong attendance, but the nonprofit resort also had its challenging moments. Erik Oline, a 2017 graduate of Ashland High School, finished the Yukon Quest 450 dog sled race Feb. 6. The race started and finished in Teslin, Canada, and covered 450 miles through the beautiful wintry Yukon Territory. Erik brought home the “Red Lantern” award, which is given to the final finisher of the race.

A 76-year-old man died after colliding with a tree at Mt. Ashland Ski Area on Friday morning, according to a ski area news release. The helmeted skier, whose name was not released, was on Windsor Chairline, a trail categorized as “most difficult,” the release said.
The Siskiyou Mountain Club, an Ashland-based nonprofit, is hiring interns to serve on the nonprofit’s Wilderness Conservation Corps trail crew for the 2025 season. A proposal to improve safety along Lithia Park’s received a tepid response from the Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Although commissioners supported adding disability parking near the Japanese Garden and created a designated pedestrian walkway, many questioned whether the cost would lead to meaningful safety improvements.
Medford voters appear to have approved a 2% increase to the city’s transient lodging tax, which will help partially pay for the construction of a downtown conference center and minor-league ballpark.
