State Rep. Pam Marsh and Sen. Jeff Golden to join Southern Oregon Climate Action Now for evening of climate conversation

State Rep. Pam Marsh and State Senator Jeff Golden will join Southern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) as guest speakers for their 2025 ‘Sips for Sustainability’ fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Elks Lodge, 255 East Main Street in Ashland.
Joseph Vaile, former executive director for KS Wild, will serve as the emcee.
SOCAN Executive Director Daniel Scotton encouraged Southern Oregonians to join SOCAN for a “fun evening of conversation with climate-conscious soul mates.”
Scotton said the evening will include “fine wine from local wineries, non-alcoholic beverages, snacks from Itty Bitty Farms, and a silent auction featuring a wide array of items.”‘ Musical entertainment will be provided by Mountaintop Sound.
Dale Engle, Sips organizing team chair, is also encouraging people to attend, saying, “Whether a seasoned climate advocate or newly curious, ‘Sips for Sustainability’ offers all a welcoming space to learn, connect, and contribute. Every ticket purchased and donation made directly supports SOCAN’s climate literacy programs and policy initiatives across Southern Oregon.”

Organizers note SOCAN’s mission is “to promote awareness and understanding about the science, causes, and consequences of climate change. We work with individuals and organizations in Southern Oregon, statewide, nationally, and internationally to advocate for both personal and governmental actions that reduce the emissions and atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases.
“Within this framework,” the mission statement continues, “we are committed to support climate solutions that address the social injustices that have undermined vulnerable communities for many decades and that still plague our society today.”
SOCAN’s goal is a reduction in global atmospheric greenhouse gas concentration to 350 parts per million Carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) “through science education, community engagement, and policy advocacy.”
SOCAN was founded in 2012 by Kathy Conway and Alan Journet. The organization has been actively promoting its goals by participating in over 250 educational events, garnering more than 1,200 testimonials and comments, securing over 1,500 media appearances, and attracting more than 13,000 participants to its events.
