Ice rink returns to bring frozen fun to Ashland

Rotating around Ashland’s outdoor ice rink off Lithia Park, visitors of all ages and skill levels from around the region enjoyed their second weekend of icy amusement. The Ashland Rotary Centennial Ice Rink opened Nov. 18 for the winter season, drawing in locals and visitors from as far as the Portland area.

Oak Knoll Golf Course to close for month of December

Ashland’s Oak Knoll Golf course will be closed all through December for a variety of maintenance needs, the city of Ashland has announced.From Dec. 1 to 31, all nine greens, the clubhouse and the driving range will be closed with no public access.

Capital improvement project budget shortfall up for discussion at Ashland Parks & Recreation study session Wednesday

Ashland Parks and Recreation Commissioners will discuss issues from a budget shortfall to the health of salmon populations at a study session meeting to be held via Zoom Wednesday, Nov. 1. The budget for fiscal year 2023 has been reconciled after the ending fund balance for the year was originally projected to be $5.6 million, then discovered to be $4 million. Some line items in the budget are already committed to critical projects or fund transfers that can’t be altered.

Parks foundation raises more than half of Butler-Perozzi Fountain restoration project cost

In 1915 at the San Francisco Panama-Pacific International Exhibition, Ashland civic leaders Gwin Butler and Domingo Perozzi purchased a large marble fountain created by noted Florentine sculptor Antonio Frilli and donated it to the city of Ashland. Ashland Parks Foundation launched a campaign on July 4 to raise $800,000 to restore and preserve the park’s centerpiece.

Parks commission picks commissioner as interim director

Southern Oregon University instructor Leslie Eldridge has been appointed interim director of Ashland Parks and Recreation starting full time on Aug. 21. Eldridge, a member of the Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission, was appointed by the commission last week to fill the vacancy left by Michael Black, who resigned July 14.
