Ashland director to mentor SOU Digital Cinema students in university’s ‘crew experience’ course

Ashland-based writer-director Gary Lundgren will mentor student-filmmakers at Southern Oregon University this spring during the Digital Cinema Department’s innovative “Crew Experience” course, according to a SOU news release. “Crew Experience,” launched in 2022, has given SOU’s Digital Cinema students a chance each year to work on and complete a full-fledged film project.

Ashland council looks at staff cuts and new taxes

A potentially dire budget cliff prompted the Ashland City Council Monday to look at possible future cuts to police, fire, the City Band and burial services, along with various ideas to increase revenues. The council held a five-hour “retreat” in its council chamber Monday to hash out ways to avoid expected budget shortfalls over the next three bienniums that ranged from just over $1 million in a best-case scenario to more than $23 million in a worst-case scenario.
